About Essebes

Essebes is a fiber artist whose work merges meticulous craftsmanship with the wonder of ocean life and mythical creatures. Each sculpture, and painting reflects a love for texture, color, and light — transforming humble materials like wool, glass, and nautical charts into modern treasures of the sea.

The Process

Every piece begins with raw wool, dyed and shaped using traditional needle-felting. Fibers are sculpted layer by layer over an internal armature — a process that can take many hours for complex creatures like the octopus or seahorse series.

Select works incorporate beadwork, sequins, and rhinestones to catch the light, while others are illuminated from within using micro-LEDs. Each piece is entirely hand-formed, giving it a distinct personality and sense of movement — as if it might drift off the table at any moment.

Art Charts

The Art Charts collection explores the beauty of navigation and memory. Using vintage nautical charts as canvases, Essebes paints abstract washes of color over topographical lines and shipping routes — blending precision and emotion, mapping not just coordinates, but stories.

Philosophy

Essebes creates slowly, intentionally, and sustainably. Each work is either one-of-a-kind or made to order — an artful antidote to mass production. Materials are chosen for their integrity: ethically sourced wool, reclaimed or vintage charts, and energy-efficient LEDs.

Commission a Piece
